Why do students get bored at school so easily? There seem to be many different reasons why students might be getting bored at school. I believe it all depends on how the student feels in class and the way in which the teacher delivers the subject. One of my classmates argues that “Sometimes boredom happens because of laziness, indiscipline, and lack of curiosity on the part of the student.” This is true. I sometimes feel bored at school, when I don’t want to do any work. On the website Child Parenting, there are four reasons why kids are bored at school. Students may be 1) under-challenged, 2) under-motivated, 3) under-connected, and 4) under-skilled. Many people have thought of different reasons why kids are bored at school. Yet, what matters is how we can solve the problem by trying to engage the kids in new and more exciting activities at school.

Young kids can easily change of mood from one minute to the next, especially if they are in the process of growing up. They can get very sentimental. It is said that there is a certain age in high school when young adults start getting bored and lazy at school. Coincidentally, I’ve been seeing that kind of behavior lately at my high school. And I should say that many times I can not escape from adopting a lazy attitude myself. One can feel sad or depressed and not wanting to do a thing. Kids who don’t have energy in their bodies may also feel tired and bored.  Also, we need to consider that some teachers don’t know how to make the lessons fun for the students, and so the students might get distracted or fall asleep during class.

As I mentioned earlier, Child Parenting presents four different reasons why students get bored at school. For instance, they might be under-challenged. That means that they are not given work that keeps them engaged during the whole class period. Some of the students may finish their assignments earlier than others and have to wait for the rest of the class to finish. These students, of course, are at risk of getting bored while waiting. The second reason is that students may feel under-motivated. They can’t find anything attractive in doing class work or paying attention to their teacher. Students need to find a deeper meaning in learning that allows them to associate learning with their personal lives. Thirdly, kids might feel under-connected, which means that they have trouble connecting or interacting with other students and teachers. They may experience isolation. Isolated students don’t like to do work and become bored. Finally, there are students who have been considered “under-skilled” because they haven’t acquired the necessary skills to be successful in school. Consequently, they end up not wanting to try anything and getting bored. They believe that they are less intelligent than their classmates and so they never participate in class, fearing that their answers might be wrong.

I should also say that boredom is connected to indiscipline. Many students don’t know how to follow directions or show respect. They think school is not important and so they go to school to meet their friends. No academic subject holds their attention. They try to do things that are not allowed in school and predispose themselves not to engage in any class activity. School is not a place to entertain kids but a place to learn. But, teachers and students can work together to eliminate boredom in school. Teachers should try to make the lessons more interesting and students have to try to pay attention and interact during class. Boredom cannot get you where you want to be. It only keeps you in one place and you never get to go anywhere. You don’t succeed in life. Boredom can be really dangerous, and we need to start solving the problem so that kids can succeed in life.
